What's Inside a Hand Wash Station
A hand wash station is a self-contained sink unit, independent of any toilet. Typical features include:
- A foot-pump or battery-powered electronic faucet
- A separate fresh-water supply tank
- A separate greywater (wastewater) holding tank
- A built-in soap dispenser
- A paper towel dispenser
- A small counter or basin area, often multi-station on larger units
Because fresh water and greywater are kept in separate onboard tanks, hand wash stations work anywhere a portable toilet would — no plumbing hookup required — and get serviced (refilled and drained) on the same visit as your toilet units.
Best Uses
Hand wash stations are typically added — not used as a replacement for a toilet — in situations where handwashing compliance matters:
- Food truck and vendor rows at festivals and markets

- Construction and industrial job sites, especially during cold and flu season

How Many Do You Need?
A common planning guideline is one hand wash station per 75–100 guests, or one per food vendor cluster, whichever is more frequent — food service areas generally warrant their own dedicated station rather than sharing one across the whole event.
