Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about scheduling, pricing, and using a porta potty rental. For a deeper look at unit options or placement rules, see our unit type guide and placement & servicing guide.

Delivery & Scheduling

How many porta potties do I need for my event or job site?

As a rough guide, plan on one standard unit per 50–75 guests for a several-hour event, or one unit per 10–20 workers on a job site running a standard shift. Longer events, all-day festivals, or extended job-site rentals typically need more units per person to keep lines and servicing manageable.

How does delivery and pickup work?

Units are delivered and leveled at your confirmed placement spot ahead of your event or project start date, and picked up once your rental period ends or you request early pickup. You typically don't need to be present for either as long as the location is clearly communicated and accessible to the delivery truck.

How often are units serviced during a multi-day rental?

For a single-day event, servicing usually isn't needed. Multi-day events and long-term job-site rentals are typically serviced on a recurring schedule — often weekly for standard construction rentals — which includes pumping the holding tank, restocking supplies, and cleaning. Heavier-use sites may need more frequent visits.

Can I reschedule or cancel my delivery?

Yes, most rentals can be rescheduled or canceled if you contact your provider before the scheduled delivery date. Some providers may apply a fee for changes made with very short notice, so it's best to notify them as early as possible.

Pricing & Servicing

What payment methods are accepted?

Accepted payment methods vary by local provider but commonly include major credit or debit cards, and sometimes ACH or check for commercial and long-term accounts. Confirm accepted payment types when you book.

What happens if a unit runs out of supplies during my event?

For single-day events this is uncommon if the right number of units was ordered for your guest count. For multi-day events or larger gatherings, mid-event servicing or restocking can typically be arranged — let your provider know your expected guest count up front so they can plan supply levels accordingly.

Can I rent more than one unit at a time?

Yes, multiple units — including a mix of standard, ADA-accessible, and hand wash stations — can typically be scheduled together for larger events or job sites. Let your provider know your full headcount or crew size so units can be delivered and placed together.

How much does a porta potty rental cost?

Cost depends on unit type, how many units you need, rental duration, and servicing frequency, and it varies by local market. See our pricing guide for a full breakdown of what affects your quote.

Rental Terms & Placement

Do I need an ADA-accessible unit?

If your event is open to the public, held on public property, or receiving public funding, local permitting authorities often require at least one ADA-accessible unit. Job sites and workplaces may also have accessibility obligations. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, so confirm with your local permitting office. See our ADA accessible unit page for specs and details.

Do I need a permit for a porta potty rental?

Placement entirely on private property usually doesn't require a permit. Public events held on streets, in parks, or on public right-of-way often do require one, and the permitting body may specify a minimum unit count or require ADA-accessible units. Always confirm with your local municipality before finalizing your order.

Where can a unit be placed, and what access is required?

Units need a flat, level, stable surface and a clear path for the delivery and service truck to reach the spot for the full rental period. Steep slopes, soft ground, and areas blocked by low branches or tight turns can limit placement options. See our placement and servicing guide for a full rundown.

Is a rental agreement required?

Most porta potty rentals are booked under a short rental agreement covering the rental period, unit count, servicing schedule, and fees for extensions or damage. Read through the terms provided at booking so there are no surprises.
